Silica & Flour Dust: Combustible Risk Management

Jan 12, 20266 min read

The Hidden Bomb in Your Rafters

Flour, sugar, and even timber dust are highly combustible. In a high-humidity environment like Brisbane, dust can cake onto high beams, creating a secondary explosion risk if a primary event shakes it loose.

New WHS Exposure Limits

As of 2026, the exposure limit for grain dust has been tightened. Standard brooms are now considered a hazard as they aerosolize particles. HEPA-filtered vacuum systems are the only compliant method for general housekeeping.

Our High-Level Cleaning Protocol

ProSan Australia utilises explosion-proof (EX-rated) vacuums and scissor lifts to reach superstructures. We do not use compressed air blowdowns unless the facility is entirely locked down and power is isolated, as this creates a massive dust cloud.
