The 'Bridging' Trap
A silo is 'hung' when product (like flour or cement) forms a crust across the diameter, creating a void underneath. If an operator opens the bottom hatch and pokes the blockage, the bridge can collapse instantly, burying them in seconds.
Prevention is Cheaper than a Cure
Most hang-ups are caused by moisture ingress or infrequent emptying. Implementing a cycle where the silo is completely emptied and dry-cleaned every 6-12 months prevents the compaction that leads to bridging.
Safe Unblocking Procedures
ProSan Australia strictly forbids bottom entry for unblocking. We utilise Whiphead technology deployed from the top inspection hatch to mechanically break the bridge without putting a human in the danger zone.
