What is ATEX and Why Does Your Bakery Need Compliant Cleaning?

What is ATEX?

ATEX stands for 'Atmosphères Explosibles', based on EU directives that Australia largely mirrors through AS/NZS 60079 standards. It governs equipment and practices in environments where flammable gases, mists, vapours, or combustible dusts may be present.

Why Flour Dust is Dangerous

Flour dust has a particle size so fine it becomes airborne easily. When suspended in the air at certain concentrations (the 'Lower Explosive Limit'), a single spark from a non-intrinsically safe vacuum or tool can trigger a devastating explosion. This has caused numerous fatalities globally.

ATEX-Compliant Cleaning Methods

ProSan Australia uses intrinsically safe (IS) vacuum systems certified for Zone 21/22 environments. All our equipment is electrically bonded to prevent static discharge. We follow dry-cleaning protocols to avoid introducing moisture which can cause product clumping.
